Rebreather support

Adventure Cook Islands is a rebreather friendly dive center and we store Sofnolime and oxygen for closed circuit rebreather (CCR) divers. We also have a booster pump to get your O2 cylinders up to pressure.

Mixed gas rebreather diving

For those of you interested in exploring and diving Rarotonga’s hidden submerged treasures, Adventure Cook Islands stores helium to blend trimix diluent for deep mixed gas rebreather diving. If you are planning to do deeper dives requiring helium mixtures, please contact us early in advance.

Seafan and soft coral on deep rebreather dive on Rarotonga

Steep walls and colourful soft corals

Beyond 70 meters, Rarotonga’s deep drop offs’ fall straight into the abyss and offer fascinating marine life. The type of corals change and you find massive sea fans as well as colourful soft corals which you won’t see anywhere on Rarotonga within recreational diving depths.

Rarotonga’s rare tropical reef fish

On Rarotonga’s deep walls and slopes you also find fish species that are very rare. Some fish species can be found pretty much nowhere else in the world. Amongst these fish is the holy grail of tropical saltwater reef fishes, the Peppermint Angelfish (Paracentropyge boylei), highly sought after by aquarium enthusiasts. Other rare, deepwater reef fishes on Rarotonga are, for example, the elusive Narcosis Angelfish (Centropyge narcosis) and the less rare Pitcairn Angelfish (Genicanthus spinus).

Rarotonga’s deeper reef predators

Apart for the smaller, hard to find species, you will often encounter tunas and schools of trevallies when conducting deep dives in Rarotonga. On the south coast, reef shark encounters are frequent on deep rebreather dives.

Deep shipwrecks in Rarotonga

Rarotonga is definitely not a hotspot for wreck diving. Three shipwrecks lay on Rarotonga’s fringing reef within recreational diving depths, but all vessels are very broken up by storms. There is also at least one small shipwreck on Rarotonga that lays within technical diving limits, hopefully more will be discovered soon.
