Adventure Cook Islands SSI Specialty Dive Courses

At Adventure Cook Islands we offer a large selection of SSI Specialty courses in Rarotonga. We offer specialty programs for divers and non-divers alike. All specialty courses include online studying through SSI elearning.

With SSI you also get free recognition awards based not only on your dive certifications, but also on the number of dives you do.

SSI Advanced Open Water Diver recognition

SSI Specialty Diver

Once you have completed 2 specialty programs and 12 dives, you will receive the SSI Specialty Diver rating.

SSI Advanced Open Water Diver

If you have completed 4 SSI specialty courses and a total of 24 dives, you will earn the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver rating.

SSI Master Diver rating

SSI Master Diver

Once you have completed 4 SSI specialty programs, Diver Stress and Rescue and have completed 50 dives, you will earn the prestigious SSI Master Diver rating. The SSI Master Diver is one of the highest recreational diver ratings.

Big selection of specialty courses

The majority of our SSI diving specialties include two open water dives. Additionally, we have specialty programs that include three open water dives and/ or confined water sessions, like the Deep Diving or Stress and Rescue programs.

Furthermore we offer a selection of SSI Specialty Courses that do not require you to get wet, like the Equipment Specialist or Science of Diving.
Furthermore we also offer a broad range of very interesting and educational marine ecology and identification courses for non-divers and divers alike.

Some of the non-diving specialty courses require practical workshops, others do not. Non-diving specialties are a great way to continue your diver training without having to get into the water. For instance, you may live far away from the nearest water. Or maybe it is just too cold during the winter months to go diving. Of course, during Covid-19 times, diving is not possible in many region in the world.

SSI Specialty Non-Diving Courses

By enrolling in our SSI Specialty non-diving courses you will gain new knowledge and get a new SSI Specialty certifications without having to be in Rarotonga. These courses are for divers and non-divers. To enrol in these programs, you do not require any diving certification.

There are two categories of SSI non-diving specialty courses: Ecology Programs and Equipment and Diving Science Programs.

Our Ecology programs are educational courses for young and old, no matter if you have a special interest in diving or not. As long as you are interested in the ocean and its marine life, you will find courses that suit your interest here. We offer the following SSI Ecology programs:

Our Equipment and Diving Science courses are primarily for divers, but not exclusively. As long as you have a genuine interest in scuba diving, these courses should benefit you.

Specialty Diving courses

Deep Diving

In this course you will be taught how to safely conduct deep dives up to a maximum depth of 40 metres. You will plan your dives using gas consumption calculations and use dive computers during the dives.

Course prerequisites:

  • 15 years or over

Course duration:

  • 3 – 4 hours online learning
  • 3 open water dives
Waves, Tides and Currents

In this course you will practice diving in current or surge, which can be exciting yet challenging at the same time. You will get a deeper understanding of diving in dynamic environment and at the same time enhance your dive skills.

Course prerequisites:

  • 15 years (10 for Junior Program)
  • Open Water Diver (or Junior OWD)

Course duration:

  • 2 – 3 hours online learning
  • 2 open water dives
Diver Stress and Rescue

During the program you will learn important skills to protect yourself and fellow divers from accidents. Starting with identifying stress and accident prevention to practical rescue techniques and administering emergency care, you will become well prepared at handling rescue situations.

  • Open Water Diver (or Junior OWD)

Search and Reovery

The program teaches you the skills to safely and efficiently conduct search and recovery dives. You will learn how to use effective search patterns and use specialized lifting equipment, lines and reels.

SSI Photo Video Specialty course
Photo and Video

During this program, you will learn to capture stunning images of your underwater experiences. You will learn techniques to safely and easily shoot underwater still and videos, as well as learn how to maintain and store your underwater camera system.

  • Open Water Diver (or Junior OWD)

SSI Night and Limited Visibility course
Night Diving and Limited Visibility

Diving at night requires different skills from day time diving. During this program, you will learn about specialized equipment and dive procedures to safely dive at night or in low visibility.

Perfect Buoyancy

Good buoyancy control is the most important skill that you can master as a diver. By improving your buoyancy skills, you will get the most out of every dive – save energy, stay down longer and protect sensitive marine life.

Boat Diving

Many of the worlds best dive sites are only accessible by boat. During this program you will learn the skills and techniques to dive safely and comfortably dive from boats, including small personal craft and big liveaboards.

Navigation

Underwater navigation is one of the most challenging skills for divers to master. In this course you will learn how to use and combine natural and compass navigation techniques to navigate basic patterns. Furthermore, you will learn to estimate distance and how to return to a designated point.

Computer Diving

SSI Enriched Air Nitrox course
Enriched Air Nitrox

Learn how to increase your bottom times and shorten your surface interval using Enriched Air Nitrox. In the course you will learn how to analyse gas, safely plan dives and use Enriched Air Nitrox up to 40% oxygen.

SSI Decompression Diving course in Rarotonga
Decompression Diving

The course teaches you how to dive beyond the no-decompression limits. You will learn to plan and conduct limited decompression dives with a single cylinder up to a maximum depth of 40 meters. This course is a bridge between recreational and technical diving.

Marine Ecology

This is a great course for all ocean lovers! Learn about different ocean ecosystems are how they are interconnected. You will also learn and how ocean organisms interact with each other and their marine environments.

Sea Turtle Ecology

The course teaches you about the history of turtles, the role they play in the marine ecosystem as well as their threats to survival. Moreover, it provides you with the skills and concepts you need to recognize and identify common sea turtle species.

Shark Ecology

The program is the perfect course for all shark lovers and for those who are nervous about sharks but want to overcome their fear. You will find out why shark behaviour is often misunderstood and how to interpret shark behaviour properly. In other words, you will learn how dive with sharks.

Manta and Ray Ecology

During the program you will learn how to distinguish between different ray species and how to interact with them safely.

Fish Identification

Science Of Diving

This specialty is an essential way to expand your overall diving knowledge. Furthermore, the program is required training for most SSI Professional programs, as well as some Extended Range programs. Equipment Techniques
