During our PADI Open Water Diver course in Rarotonga you will learn all the fundamentals of scuba diving. This is the entry level certification that will open you the doors to a whole new world filled with excitement, adventures and memories that will last a lifetime.
The PADI Open Water Diver certification is recognized worldwide. PADI stands for “Professional Association of Diving Instructors” and is the worlds leading recreational diver training organization. With your PADI Open Water Diver certification you can buy or hire dive gear, get dive cylinders filled and of course go diving anywhere in the world.
The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three parts:
One of our experienced PADI instructors will be at your side during all skill development and open water dives.
You will get your own set of Open Water course materials for studying and watch the PADI Open Water Diver course video at our PADI Dive Centre in Rarotonga. Our PADI instructors will cover all major knowledge development sections with you. You will complete chapter knowledge reviews as well as quizzes and exams in the classroom.
Expected classroom study duration with us in Rarotonga: 8 hours
You take the classroom portion of the course online through PADI’s elearning portal. All knowledge reviews and exams will be finished online before you arrive in Rarotonga. At our shop you only have to complete a quick quiz, which takes most people about 15 to 20 minutes. You can do all the studying beforehand at your own pace and from the comfort of your home or anywhere else you choose. This is convienient and saves you valuable holiday time.
Expected online study duration through PADI’s elearning portal: 10 – 16 hours
You complete your skill development training with us on Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. You practice all basic scuba skills with our PADI instructors inside the lagoon. Your confined water training will be conducted in the Aroa Marine Reserve right in front of our PADI Dive Centre in Rarotonga.
Expected confined water training duration with us in Rarotonga: Two half days
You complete the skill development section of the PADI Open Water Diver course beforehand with your local PADI Dive Centre at home in your local swimming pool. If you complete all the knowlegde development and confined water training before you arrive in Rarotonga, you will only have to complete your open water dives with us to get certified. This is a great option if you are short on time and only stay in Rarotonga for a few days.
We conduct all four open water training dives off our boat at real dive sites around Rarotonga. You will spend most parts of your open water dives exploring the coral reef and it’s inhabitants. You will also demonstrate basic dive skill you have learned earlier in confined water during skill development. The 4 open water training dives are conducted during two boat trips.
Expected duration: 2 half days (2 x 2 dives)
It will take you about 3 full days to get certified when you complete the entire PADI Open Water course with us.

COURSE PRICESCourse requirements
You need to be fit and healthy (see medical form here) and a competent swimmer. Prior diving experience is not necessary for this course; however you should be a comfortable snorkeler before you start the course. Minimum age requirement is 12 years for “Junior Open Water Diver” certification (10 and 11 years old children may participate on instructor’s discretion) and 15 years for “Open Water Diver” certification.
