Adventure Cook Islands - Scuba diving in Rarotonga and hire
Adventure Cook Islands Dive Centre and Rental Specialist
Rarotonga’s reefs offer amazing snorkelling opportunities. The sheltered lagoon by itself offers a myriad of interesting fish species. Therefore, many people are happy to stay within the boundaries of the lagoon. But for some people snorkeling in Rarotonga ‘s lagoon is just not quite enough. Furthermore, chances of seeing bigger species like eagle rays, turtles or even reef sharks are much higher if you are beyond the surf zone. In winter there is also the chance to see migrating humpback whales…
On our Reef To See outer reef snorkeling trips we will take you beyond Rarotonga‘s fringing reef. Our custom build Stabi-Craft boat can comfortably take 6 to 7 snorkelers. We have snorkel sites all around Rarotonga and depending on sea conditions we will take you to the best spots for the day.
Starting at our shop where we gear you up with fins, masks and snorkels (wetsuits and weight belts if you wish), we then drive down to our boat launching site of the day, either on Rarotonga‘s north, south or east coast. Depending on the snorkel sites of the day, boat rides take between 5 and 15mins. Once moored at the snorkeling site, we will brief you on the site specifics so you will have a good idea about what to expect. Should you choose to follow our snorkel guide, the guide will point out interesting fish and other marine life.
The water depth on our snorkelling sites varies between 3 and 10 meters, which means that you should be a comfortable swimmer and not be afraid of open water. Prior snorkeling experience is required.
Pending availability, we can conduct snorkeling trips Mondays to Friday, either at 8:30 am or at 1 pm. Sea conditions permitting, we will take you to 1 or 2 different snorkel spots on our tour. The duration of the entire snorkel trip is about 2.5 hours.
Please note that we do NOT take snorkel trip bookings in advance before you arrive in Rarotonga. Our outer reef snorkel trips are very dependent on sea conditions. As we are pretty busy with scuba diving trips, we cannot take any snorkel trip booking in advance when there is a high chance that the trip gets cancelled due to sea conditions. Scuba diving trips can still go out when conditions are not suitable any more for snorkel trips. For all snorkel trips you will have to check conditions and availability with us when you are on the island.
